Many of my reflections offer glimpses of life moments that have shaped my faith, especially those that include my parents. Here is another such one directlyfrom my mom for you today!
Downtown Crowley has a court circle where the parish courthouse is located. The 3-story building has a square clock atop the roof. Three-year-old Tracy and I were driving towards downtown. As we neared the court circle she suddenly said, “I know why there’s a clock way up there. It’s so the birds can tell time.”
That story is an example of the enjoyable age of three-year-olds. They have developed a personality. They engage in conversation. They notice details in the world around them. They study and speculate, then draw their own conclusions. They verbalize an awesome imagination.
As we grow older life gets more complicated with deeper emotions, juggling relationships, encountering failures, increased responsibilities of school and work, etc. And I think we lose the wonder of the world around us, the wonder of simplicity, the wonder of imagination, even the wonder of God, His creation, His love. I pray we can still be inspired by that wonder.
Psalm 8:4-5 - “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon, and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?”
