The Tribunal carries out the ministry of justice on behalf of the diocesan bishop and is more properly called the Ecclesiastical Court of the Diocese of Lafayette. Individuals seeking a declaration of invalidity for a previous marriage petition the Court to clarify their marital status according to divine and church law.
To seek a declaration of nullity, petitioners will need to contact any priest or deacon of the diocese for guidance. Additionally, we have advocates, which are 35 lay men and women who are trained and authorized to assist you in the process. Any completed application must be submitted to the Tribunal office by a priest, deacon or advocate.
